Building a positive relationship with one’s self, others and the environment is fundamental in Neohumanist education. Neohumanist education is a type of holistic education which focuses on developing the multilateral potential of each child: physical development, life skills, moral discrimination, emotional balance, social responsibility, ecological concern, intellectual knowledge, creative expression, intuitive and spiritual understanding, nurturing universal love and respect towards all beings.
This holistic perspective reflects in the teaching approach. Children learn naturally and spontaneously like sponges, absorbing information from the environment as a whole, and then deciphering its components and constructing meaning. Therefore, the teaching style utilized in Neohumanist Education is designed to reflect this holistic process, alternating between “whole learning experiences,” in order to awaken curiosity and stimulate motivation, and breaking it down into smaller pieces to understand components. This approach preserves the synthetic and intuitive ability of the holistic mind, which often atrophies due to the rush to form skills in analytical thinking.
